the kindness most commendable:
shawn walked over,stunned,and picked him up.
"let's go back to school,shall we. you're drunk.let's go back and shower."
"uh...huh?"
ked muttered and slumped against him.
"you're crazy drunk,let's go back to school and shower and then go home."
"i can't! fuck,look,i...i'm so dirty and mud mud muddy muddy muddy..."
ked broke away and stumbled,
"muddy-muddy-muddy...."
he chanted,enjoying the sound of the word.
"listen to me,ked,you're drunk.you used to be very calm right?come on let's go back to school."
shawn picked him up,himself head dizzy and together they leaned against each other and walked back to school.
"oh-no...we'll get expelled..hahaha.."
then they walked past a bus-stop and ked seeing a few girls from their school walking towards them,composed himself and they walked on and then as shawn opened his mouth to say something,ked,suddenly,in a foolish exhibitionistic way,pushed him into a hedge.
"ar!...i'm scratched,look,ked,why did you push me?"
"i dun know,i dun know....dun know..."he said and laughed.
"ar...for them to see..those girls...like an exhibition,haha...."
"i'm sorry...sorry....sorry.."
then they got to a traffic junction and there they waited for the light to turn green and as cars pulled to a stop by the road,ked waved to them and to a man sitting in a lorry staring at him,he stared back defiantly and pantomimed like a sailor with a hand over his eyes searching for land.shawn stood beside him sheepishly and tried to calm him down as he muttered and laughed,
"see...they're staring..hahaha...stare for what! kaypoh!"
as they crossed the road and walked back to school,they came into more and more of their schoolmates and ked,in his muddied black uniform,looked like a monster,grinning madly at them in broad daylight and shawn walking worriedly behind him.
they sneaked into school like guerillas and in the showers,ked laid down on the wet tiles and crouched fetally and vomited and slept feverishly as the waters from the shower rained down coldly.shawn in the other cubicle,kept muttering,
"ked,don't come out huh,don't come out,stay in there..."then he laughed and sang some songs while ked slumped and twisted on the damp floor,closed his eyes and vomited.
after what seemed like an hour,there was silence.
"hey ked! are you still alive? hey! hey!" shawn dressed and calm,shouted over the door.
"yes."
"get up then,come out! let's go home."
"i can't,my clothes are wet and dirty,my mum will kill me."ked shouted from his miserable condition on the floor.
shawn laughed and clumb slightly over the door of the cubicle,his head peeking over at ked, a naked body lying down beginning to stir.
after a few minutes,mustering himself tiredly,ked came out of the cubicle like a nightmare.
"let's go..."shawn said.
they walked out of the toilet to the canteen and as shawn ran upstairs to find a friend,ked slumped over the canteen table and convulsed shakingly,his wet clothes accelerating the shivering cold.a few other students stared at him.then shawn came down and seeing the wet cat,worriedly asked,
"are you alright?why are you so cold?"
then he hurried to the student's council room to borrow a shirt but as there were no p.e. shirts or boy's uniforms ,he just took a girl's shirt hanging on the racks.
ked changed into it and shawn seeing him still cold,brought him to the aircon machines which blew out hot air but then they were not working and so the both of them tired out,slumped nauseously onto a table.after a few minutes,shawn seeing ked pale-faced and dying,wanted to see him home and together they walked out of school and suddenly ked ran and squatted over a waste-paper basket and retched acidly.when he finished,they continued walking but then the vice-principal appeared through the office door and ked hurried past her but shawn was way-laid and she spoke reprimandingly to him.shawn was a regular attending her discipline lectures.
ked waited for shawn by the school pond and when he came out,he said sadly to ked,
"she said she's going to give me a testimonial of only two lines..."
ked said nothing and nodded.together they walked out of school and shawn kindly accompanied ked to the bus-stop and saw him off on a bus before going home himself.
"are you sure you're alright?is the bus a direct one?you don't have to walk a far way,do you?"
"a little."
And the bus roared away.
